About The Clavadel

The Clavadel is Surrey’s premier rehabilitation centre. Widely admired by healthcare professionals for its exceptionally high standards, it has successfully treated thousands of patients since opening its doors in 2014.

Boasting state-of-the-art technology - housed in what many have compared to a well-appointed hotel - it is the brainchild of Managing Director, Charles Geoghegan who recognised the need for ready access to such a facility in the UK and set about creating a new concept in pre- and post-operative care.

But the story didn’t end there. Building on strong foundations, The Clavadel has established its place as an industry leader by pursuing a policy of regular reappraisal and enhancement to ensure ‘the three Rs’ of Recuperation, Rehabilitation and Recovery remain constant watchwords.

As a result, exciting plans lie ahead. But meanwhile, it continues to do what it does best: utilise a wealth of experience and expertise to support the clinically vulnerable on their journey back to optimum health.

Meet The Team

Charlie Geoghegan - Director

Charles Geoghegan graduated from South Bank University in 1998, having successfully completed a BA in Hotel Management. On leaving university he embarked on a career in hospitality with notable success before taking a change in direction to link up with newly formed care provider Sanctuary Care where he was instrumental in establishing their first facility, now one of the major care groups in the country. He later joined ANS, a major corporate concern with a portfolio of 50 homes that would eventually be acquired by BUPA.

Such a decisive move into the caring professions was no surprise, however, as the Geoghegan family were already operating two well-established care facilities for the elderly in Surrey. Charles subsequently joined the family business in 2000 on a full-time basis with management responsibilities for The Old  Hall and latterly The Old Rectory, but in 2010 a business trip to Holland and Germany – then world leaders in the use of hydrotherapy in post-operative rehabilitation – would prove pivotal.

In 2014, realising the urgent need for a new approach to post-acute care in the UK, Charles Geoghegan drew on his formative knowledge of the hotel industry to launch The Clavadel. By providing the general public with ready access to cutting-edge treatments within a relaxed, country club-like environment, he created a model that has elicited both the admiration of healthcare professionals and the gratitude of its patients alike.

But he refuses to rest on his laurels. While still retaining an overarching interest in all the facilities within The Geoghegan Group, he is already making plans for the future – something to be keenly anticipated, if past achievements are anything to go by.
