The story so far

History in the making

Joanne Geoghegan returned to this country in 1985, after having lived abroad. Joanne, the daughter of the late Ewhurst village doctor, and her family settled back into the village life.  Whilst living abroad she had experienced the settlement and care of sick and elderly expatriates left behind in a foreign country.

On the family’s return she took up a position as Matron at a nearby care home. Soon after, in 1989, Joanne realised her ambition to establish a care home of her own. The Old Rectory was purchased, converted and extended to meet the needs of its residents and staff within a happy and relaxed atmosphere.

This fine country house with its manicured gardens continues to enjoy an enviable reputation to this day.

Strength to Strength

In 1997, the family decided to purchase The Old Hall in Send – an existing care home in urgent need of attention. With a mission to improve the lives of both residents and staff, a complete refurbishment was undertaken, reducing the number of beds by 20 per cent and improving the staff-to-resident ratio to enable the manner of people-centred care that had already become the Geoghegan mark.

In 2014, the Group’s latest project, The Clavadel in Guildford was launched. Representing a new concept in post-operative rehabilitation and convalescent care, this specialist centre offers a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy pool, a dedicated physiotherapy suite, and cutting-edge gym technology. To date, it has transformed the recovery of thousands of patients and, under the management of the Geoghegans’ eldest son Charles, it continues to grow from strength to strength.

Future plans

In a concentrated effort to maintain high standards, plans are underway to completely rebuild The Old Hall. The end result will be a modern, luxurious residential home that is ready to welcome newcomers for many years to come.

And after that, who knows? But whatever happens, you may be sure that any future endeavours will bear the same distinctive qualities that are the hallmark of The Geoghegan Group.
